How to install Midnight Commander on Ubuntu – Text based File Manager

Midnight Commander is a free and open source command line based file manager with a text user interface for Linux, MacOS and Windows. It is released under GNU General Public License v3. Using this your can manage your files in your terminal. You can do delete, copy, move your files and directory. Some other features are search files and run commands in subshell. You can view the file and edit that file with the build in midnight commander editor mcedit. you can also change to your favorite editor to edit the file. Other features are view the directory size, compare files and directories, unicode support and lot more. Using midnight commander you can recover deleted files from an ext2 or ext3 partitions.

Install Midnight Commander file manager on ubuntu:

Installation of Midnight Commander file manager is very simple task. Midnight Commander file manager packages are available for Ubuntu. So you can install it via Ubuntu software or via terminal.To install the latest version of Midnight Commander file manager via terminal, first your need to open your terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) app. Then type the below command then press the enter key.

sudo apt-get update

Then type your Ubuntu user password if needed. After that run the below Midnight Commander file manager installation command in terminal.

sudo apt-get install mc

During the installation of Midnight Commander file manager it will ask you to confirm the installation process. on that time just type Y and press the enter key to continue the installation. After the successful installation of Midnight Commander file manager, run the below command to start it.
