How to install Leafpad text editor on ubuntu – Gedit alternative for Ubuntu

Leafpad is a free and open source lightweight Notepad text editor for linux and BSD systems. It is easy to use notepad or text editor with some basic features and very small in size. Some of the important features are codeset option, auto codeset detection, unlimited Undo and Redo option, auto indent, multi line indent, display line numbers, Drag and Drop support and Printing options. It is the default text editor for LXDE Desktop environment, including Lubuntu up to version 18.04 LTS.

Install Leafpad text editor on ubuntu:

Leafpad text editor is available as a snap package for Ubuntu. To install Leafpad text editor, open your terminal app and type the below command and hit enter.

sudo snap install leafpad

Then type your Ubuntu password. It will start the installation of Leafpad text editor on your ubuntu system.

For the beta version of the leafpad use the below command in terminal.

sudo snap install leafpad --edge

After the installation of Leafpad text editor, click the show applications in the Ubuntu Gnome dock and type Leafpad in the search box and click Leafpad to open it. For Unity you can search Leafpad from Ubuntu dash.
