How to install Sweet Home 3D on Ubuntu – Free Interior Design application

Sweet Home 3D is a free and open source Home interior design application for Windows, MacOS and Linux. It is released under GNU General Public License v2 license. Using this you can design interior and place the furniture with drag and drop support in a home or any building. The home plan is available as 2D plan but comes with a 3D preview. It looks like realistic rendering of the layout. You can draw walls and also insert doors and windows in walls. Some other useful features are plug-ins support to extend its feature, print and export support, annotate the plan to show the details and lot more.

Install Sweet Home 3D on Ubuntu:

You can install Sweet Home 3D via the snappy package manager and the portable standalone installer on ubuntu.

Install Sweet Home 3D via Snap:

Open your terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and run below snap Sweet Home 3D installation command.

sudo snap install sweethome3d-homedesign

Then enter your Ubuntu password. It will install the latest snap version of Sweet Home 3D on your Ubuntu system. Then click show applications in your Ubuntu Gnome dock and type Sweet Home 3D in the search box and click SweetHome3D to start it. You can also start it by running the below command.

Install Sweet Home 3D via Installer:

Download Sweet Home 3D

Download the Linux installer from the above download link based on you ubuntu os architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).
Then extract that file by right click and select Extract Here. Then open the extracted folder and right click on the Sweet Home 3D program file and select Properties.Then go to the Permissions tab and check the Allow executing files as program option. After that right click on Sweet Home 3D program file and select Run to start it.
