How to install Ksnip Screenshot tool on Ubuntu

Ksnip is a free and open source Qt based screenshot application for Linux, Windows and MacOS. Using this you can take the screenshot of a full screen, focused window, custom rectangular area and window under mouse cursor. It also comes a option to take the screenshot with or without your mouse cursor. In this tool you can set the capture delay in screenshots and add your watermarks to captured images. It also comes with some basic editing features like pen tool, marker, rectangles, ellipses and add texts. Some other important features are command line support, upload screenshots to imgur image hosting site and other scripts, print support, save to pdf and Global HotKeys for screenshots.

Install Ksnip Screenshot tool on Ubuntu

Native deb file format, AppImage and snap are available installation options for Ubuntu. In this article we will see all one by one. Not only Ubuntu you can use the steps for all Ubuntu based Linux distributions.

Install Ksnip via Snap:

Open your terminal console application (ctrl+alt+t) and run this snap Ksnip Screenshot tool installation command.

sudo snap install ksnip

Enter your Ubuntu user password. that’s it. Now open from your show applications menu. or run this command in terminal.

ksnip

You can also install it via below apt command.

sudo apt install ksnip

Install Ksnip via DEB:

Download the latest version of ksnip in .deb file format and save in your Downloads folder. here the downloaded file name is “ksnip-1.6.2.deb“. It will change based on the version. And change the below commands based on your downloaded file name. Run below commands one by one. enter your ubuntu user password if needed.

Download ksnip

sudo apt install ./Downloads/ksnip-1.10.1.deb

Install Ksnip via AppImage:

If you want the portable appimage, the download ksnip AppImage from from the above ksnip download link and save it in your Downloads folder. then run these commands . Change the commands based on your file name.

cd Downloads
sudo chmod +x ~ ksnip-1.6.2-x86_64.AppImage

here “ksnip-1.6.2-x86_64.AppImage” is downloaded file name. Then start ksnip by below commands in terminal.

./ksnip-1.6.2-x86_64.AppImage
sudo ./ksnip-1.6.2-x86_64.AppImage
