FIGlet is a small command-line tool. Using this you can generate ASCII text banners and large letters from the terminal text. Ascii Patrol is free open source Ascii art type game for Windows, Linux, Cygwin, DOS and web browsers. It is based on 1982’s Moon Patrol arcade game. The game can run in monochrome and 16 color mode. You can control the game using arrow keys, Enter and Escape keys. Left arrow key for brake, Right key for acceleration, up key for jump, down key for crouch and enter key for fire. Ascii Patrol is simple but additive command line game for linux with good game music and sound effects. It is released under GNU General Public License v3.0 license.

Ascgen is an open source software that lets you convert images into text-based art. From wiki  “ASCII art is a graphic design technique that uses computers for presentation and consists of pictures pieced together from the 95 printable (from a total of 128) characters defined by the ASCII Standard from 1963 and ASCII compliant character sets with proprietary extended characters (beyond the 128 characters of standard 7-bit ASCII).”
