How To Install Xine Open Source Media Player On Ubuntu

Xine is a free and open source multi media player for Linux and Windows. It is released under open source GNU General Public License version 2.0 (GPLv2) License. Using this you can play your DVD, VCD and CDs in your computer. It supports 3gp, AVI, ASF, FLV, Matroska, MOV, MP4, NUT, Ogg, OGM, RealMedia Container formats and Cinepak, DV, H.263, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, HuffYUV, Indeo, MJPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP, RealVideo, Sorenson, Theora, WMV video formats. It also supports AAC, MP3, RealAudio, Shorten, Speex, AC3, ALAC, AMR, FLAC, Vorbis audio formats.

Install Xine Media Player on Ubuntu

Xine media player installation in Ubuntu is very easy. You can install it via Ubuntu package manager. Open your terminal console app (ctrl+Alt+T), then type the below command and hit the enter key. If needed type your Ubuntu user password.It will update Ubuntu software list.

sudo apt-get update

Then run the below Xine media player command in your terminal app to install Xine media player on your Ubuntu system.

sudo apt-get install xine-ui

You can run it by below command

xine

or by clicking the show apps menu in the Ubuntu dock and then type xine in the search box and click xine to open it.
