How to install Trelby Screenwriting Program on Ubuntu

Trelby is a free and open source screenwriting application for Linux and Windows. Using this tool you can write beautiful screenplay for movie, drama, stage shows and web series. It comes with powerful screenplay editor with format correction and pagination, auto-completion, and spell checking support. Some other useful features are compare your script versions, build in name database with more than 200000 names, report generator for your dialogues, characters and scene.

Trelby

You can import the screenplay from formatted text, .fdx, .celtx, .fountain, .astx and .fadein file formats and export your screenplay in PDF, formatted text, HTML, RTF, .fdx and .fountain file formats. You can also add watermarks in your pdf exports.It is released under GPL license.

Install Trelby on Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04 and later

Tested on Ubuntu 20.04

Trelby is available as a native .deb package file. Download the latest development version of Trelby from the below download link and save it on your Downloads folder.

Note: Stable version of Trelby will not work on the latest version of Ubuntu. So download this dev version.

Download Trelby

Right click on the downloaded zip file and select extract here. Inside your will find the trelby deb file.

Then open your termnal application (ctrl+alt+t) and navigate to the Trelby deb file.

cd Downloads/trelby
sudo dpkg -i trelby_2.2.1_all.deb

Here “trelby_2.2.1_all.deb” is the extracted .deb file .Change this command based on your file name.

sudo apt install -f

You can open trelby by using this command.
