How to install LMMS on Ubuntu – Create Music with your computer

LMMS is a free open source music production software for linux, macOS and Windows. Using this you can create music with your computer without any instruments. It comes with song editor, beat bassline editor and Piano Roll for editing patterns and melodies. It supports importing and exporting of MIDI files. It also comes with so many instrument and effect-plugins to produce good music. Another important feature is unlimited FX channels and effects with build in FX mixer . It supports SoundFont2, VST(i), LADSPA and GUS Patches.

Install LMMS free music production software on Ubuntu:

LMMS free music production software is available as AppImage and Ubuntu software repository. In this article we will see how to install it on Ubuntu.

Install LMMS via AppImage:

Download the latest version of Install LMMS music production software file via the below download link.

Download LMMS

Here currently the downloaded file name is “lmms-1.2.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage
Right click on the downloaded .AppImage file and select Properties. Then go to the Permissions tab and check the Allow executing files as program option. After that Open your terminal and type the below command in the terminal and hit enter.

cd Downloads

Note: Here my default download path is Downloads folder. You can change according to your download location.

Then type the below command and press the enter key.

./lmms-1.2.1-linux-x86_64.AppImage

Then type your Ubuntu password if needed.
Note:You can change the below command according to your downloaded file name.

You can also install it via Ubuntu software. In terminal just run the below command.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lmms
