How to install Entropy Piano Tuner on Ubuntu – Open source Piano Tuning Software

Entropy Piano Tuner is a free and open source piano tuning application for Linux, Windows, MacOS, ios and Android. Using this application you can tune your Piano by new entropy method. In Entropy Piano Tuner it uses Monte-Carlo algorithm. According to its website, it records all keys of the piano and determines the spectra of their higher partials (overtones). These power spectra are filtered, added up and used to compute the entropy. It works as a below simple 3 steps. 1.recording of the keys 2.minimization of entropy 3.tuning based on computed pitches. It is released open source GPL-3.0+ license.

Install Entropy Piano Tuner on Ubuntu

You can install Entropy Piano Tuner by snap package manager. You can also install EPT using this method on all other linux distro. Open your terminal and run below Entropy Piano Tuner snap installation command. Pres the ctrl+alt+t keys together to open terminal app.

sudo snap install entropypianotuner

Then enter your ubuntu user password to confirm the installation. that’s all. After the successful installation of Entropy Piano Tuner, run this command in terminal to open it. or you can open from the applications list.

You can use the below method for ubuntu 18.04.

For Ubuntu 18.04:

In terminal run all commands one by one.

sudo wget -nv https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:entropytuner/xUbuntu_18.04/Release.key -O "/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/home:entropytuner.asc"
sudo apt update
sudo apt install entropypianotuner
