How to install cmus music player on Ubuntu

cmus is a free and open source command-line music player for Linux and MacOS. cmus (C* Music Player) is a light weight but powerful command line music player.It supports MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, Opus, Musepack, MP4, WavPack, WAV, AAC, audio CD and more file formats. It also uses ffmpeg, libmodplug and BASS for input file support. Some of the important features are gapless and resume on startup playback, playlist filters, dynamic keybinding and replaygain support. You can stream MP3 and Ogg throught SHOUTcast and Icecast. It supports extensions. Using this you can extend its features. Some of the useful extensions are status display programs, UI themes, cmus-sync, cmus-mediakeys and cmus-youtube.

Install cmus music player on Ubuntu

cmus music player packages are available for Ubuntu. You can easily install it via your terminal app. Open your terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and type the below command then press the enter key.

sudo apt-get update

Then type your Ubuntu user password. After that run the below cmus music player installation command in terminal.

sudo apt-get install cmus

During the installation of cmus music player it will ask you to confirm the installation. Type Y and press the enter key to continue the installation. After the successful installation of cmus music player, run the below command to start it.

cmus
