How to install Byte Music Player on Ubuntu

Byte is a free and open source music player for Linux. It is small but powerful music player basically designed for elementary OS, but you can install on any Linux OS. It comes with simple customizable UI with powerful music library, playlist support, recently added songs list and online radio support. You can view your media details and sort your playlists. It comes with build in radio stations search feature to find and save the online stations. And you can also switch between dark and light themes.

Install Byte Music Player on Ubuntu

Byte Music Player is only available as a flatpak for Ubuntu or need to build from source. before installing flatpak app, you need to download and setup flatpak and flathub repository on Ubuntu. Installation steps also simple and only one time process. just follow the below tutorial for install and setup flatpak and flathub on Ubuntu.

How to install flatpak on Ubuntu:

After the installation of flatpak, restart your system. Open your terminal app (ctrl+alt+t) on your system. Then type the below Byte Music Player flatpak installation command and press the enter key.

flatpak install flathub com.github.alainm23.byte

During the installation, it will ask to confirm the Byte Music Player installation. Press y and enter. Then confirm once again to install Byte Music Player and all the required applications on your Ubuntu system. Then in terminal run this command to start the Byte Music Player.

flatpak run com.github.alainm23.byte

If you don’t like it, then you can uninstall Byte by using the below command.

sudo flatpak uninstall com.github.alainm23.byte
