How to Install Howl on Ubuntu – Keyboard Centric Text Editor

Howl is a free and open source text editor for Linux and BSD. It is a general purpose text editor and support may languages and formats. It is very lightweight and comes with a minimalistic user interface without any dialogue boxes, tool bars and a menu bar. It is a Keyboard centric text oriented UI editor. It is released under the MIT license and built on GTK and LuaJIT runtime. You can extend it via Lua or Moonscript. Some of its features are buffers, modes, singnal, key binding and command line support.

Install Howl Text Editor on Ubuntu

It is available as a flatpak package for Ubuntu. First you need to install and setup flatpak on your Ubuntu system first. Please follow below tutorial link to install and setup flatpak.

How to install flatpak on Ubuntu:

After the successful installation of flatpak, open your console terminal app. You can open it by pressing (ctrl+alt+t) keys together. Then run the below Howl Text Editor flatpak installation command.

flatpak install flathub io.howl.Editor

During the installation,it will ask to confirm the Howl Text Editor installation. Press y and enter. It will install the latest version of Howl Text Editor on Ubuntu. Then start the Howl Text Editor by running the below command in terminal.

flatpak run io.howl.Editor

You can uninstall Howl Text Editor by entering this command.

sudo flatpak uninstall io.howl.Editor
