Dibuja is a free and open source paint application for Linux. Using this you can create simple drawing, edit your images, resize and crop your images, add text on your images. You can use this application as a Microsoft paint or Paintbrush alternative on Linux. You can also add effects on your drawing and images. It comes with gray scale, blur, invert, insta 1977, emboss, threshold, vignette and sharpen image effects. It is released under GNU GPL v3 license.

VPaint is a free and open source vector graphics and 2D animation editor for Windows, MacOS and Linux. VPaint is still in beta stage. It is based on Vector Graphics Complex technology. According to its creator, this is a just research experimental prototype. But it works good. You can create resolution independent illustrations and animations using this software. Some of the main features are free-form sketching, sculpting, Painting, animation and onion skinning. It comes with layer and timeline support. And you can export files in PNG (frame and sequence) and SVG file format. It is released under Apache 2.0 License.
