Install Update Firmware on Linux with GNOME Firmware Software

GNOME Firmware is a free and open source firmware management application for Linux. using GNOME Firmware you can install, upgrade, downgrade and Reinstall firmware on devices supported by fwupd. It is released under GNU General Public License v2.0. Some other important features are you can unlock locked fwupd devices, verify firmware on supported devices and display all releases for a fwupd device.

How to Install GNOME Firmware on Ubuntu Linux

GNOME Firmware is available as a flatpak package file from flathub. First install flatpak and flathub on your system and restart your system after the flatpak and flathub installation.

Install flatpak and flathub on Ubuntu Linux

Now open the terminal app and run below GNOME Firmware flatpak install command.

flatpak install flathub org.gnome.Firmware

It will install the latest version of GNOME Firmware on your system. After the installation you can open it using this command.

flatpak run org.gnome.Firmware

And uninstall GNOME Firmware using this command.

sudo flatpak uninstall org.gnome.Firmware
