How to install SimpleScreenRecorder on Ubuntu – Easy to use Screen Recorder

SimpleScreenRecorder is a free open-source screen rocorder program for Linux operating system. Using SimpleScreenRecorder, you can record your computer screen easily and share it on online. It is released under GNU General Public License. It comes with a Qt based graphical user interface. You can also record OpenGL applications directly using it. It synchronizes screen audio and video properly. Some other important features are you can reduces the video frame rate, multithreaded support, Pause and resume recording at any time, and preview during recording.

You can also live stream but it is still in experimental stage. SimpleScreenRecorder uses libav/ffmpeg libraries for audio and video encoding and supports lots of file formats. You can see the statistics like file size, bit rate, total recording time, actual frame rate during recording.

Install SimpleScreenRecorder on Ubuntu:

Installation of SimpleScreenRecorder is available in 3 methods via Ubuntu Software center, PPA and official repositories.

Open your terminal app and type the below command in terminal and hit the enter key.

sudo apt-get update

Then type your Ubuntu password. After that run the below command in terminal to install SimpleScreenRecorder from the Ubuntu official repositories.

sudo apt-get install simplescreenrecorder

After the installation of SimpleScreenRecorder, click the show applications in the Ubuntu Gnome dock and type SimpleScreenRecorder in the search box and click SimpleScreenRecorder to open it. For Unity you can search SimpleScreenRecorder from Ubuntu dash.

You can also install SimpleScreenRecorder via Ubuntu Software. For that click the show applications in the Ubuntu Gnome dock and type Ubuntu Software in the search box and click Ubuntu Software to open it. In Ubuntu software type SimpleScreenRecorder and select official SimpleScreenRecorder. And click the install button. It will install the SimpleScreenRecorder from Ubuntu Software.

If you want to install the latest version of SimpleScreenRecorder, then you need to install it via the official SimpleScreenRecorder PPA. Open your terminal app and run the below command.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder

Then type your Ubuntu Password and hit enter. After that press the Enter key to add the official SimpleScreenRecorder PPA on your system. then execute the below command in the terminal.

sudo apt-get update

Then type and hit the enter key to run the below command in the terminal to install the latest version official SimpleScreenRecorder on Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get install simplescreenrecorder

During the installation if ask press the Y key and then the enter key to confirm the installation. That’s all.
