How to Install Proton Mail Desktop App on Ubuntu

Proton Mail service has released a new desktop app for Linux, Windows and Mac. Proton Mail is a secure end-to-end encrypted and private email service based in Switzerland. The desktop version comes with the same Proton Mail’s web version features and privacy protections plus extra integrations with OS.

Proton Mail Desktop App is available as a deb package file for Ubuntu and Debian based systems. Download Proton Mail Desktop App for Linux in . deb package file format from the above download link and save it on your Downloads folder. Now open the terminal application (ctrl+alt+t) and run below Proton Mail apt install command.

sudo apt install ./Downloads/ProtonMail-desktop-beta.deb

Note: Here “ProtonMail-desktop-beta.deb” is the downloaded file name. you can change above command based on your file name.

After the successful installation of ProtonMail desktop app, run below command to open it.

proton-mail

You can also start it via the Show Apps Ubuntu dock menu.
