KDE 4.8 is now available for download.It provides major updates to KDE Plasma Workspaces, KDE Applications, and the KDE Platform. KDE Version 4.8 provides many new features, and improved stability and performance.

what’s new in this release?

Alt+Tab shortcut now has six possible layouts.
performance improvements in KWin.
Redesigned power management System Settings.
new splash screen implementation uses QtQuick.
new display engine Dolphin
Easier image scrolling in Gwenview

63rd Republic Day of India google doodle

Today the search giant, Google is celebrating india’s 63rd Republic Day with a new google doodle on its home page. This doodle displays the theme of Indian Tricolor – Saffron, White and Green on three umbrella.In India, Republic Day commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on 26 January 1950.

Google is shutting down some of its services. Shut down product list:

Picnik: on April 19, 2012
download a zip file of your creations through Picnik Takeout or copy them to Google+.

Social Graph API: on April 20, 2012.

Urchin: New Urchin Software licenses will no longer be available after March 2012.

Needlebase: on June 1, 2012.

Google Sky Map: will be open source

Google Message Continuity (GMC): Current GMC customers will be able to use GMC for the duration of their contract.

Google+ Now Has 90 Million Users

According to CEO Larry Page, Google’s social network google+ Now Has 90 Million Users.Page also says that 60% of Google+ users engage daily, and 80% are active weekly. That either means Google+ has 54 million daily active users.”Google had a really strong quarter ending a great year. Full year revenue was up 29%, and our quarterly revenue blew past the $10 billion mark for the first time,” said Larry Page, CEO of Google.

Twitter Buys Summify

Twitter has acquired Summify, a social aggregation service that digests the links in one’s Twitter feed and puts them into a daily summary.

And what’s now:

disabled new account registrations.
removed the ability to make your summaries public (i.e. all summaries will be private)
removed profile pages and influence pages
removed the auto-publish feature
disabled user registration from the website, iPhone and Hootsuite apps.

Microsoft revealed its NTFS replacement yesterday, the Resilient File System on the Building Windows 8 blog.

key features of ReFS:

Metadata integrity with checksums
Integrity streams providing optional user data integrity
Allocate on write transactional model for robust disk updates
Large volume, file and directory sizes
Storage pooling and virtualization makes file system creation and management easy
Data striping for performance and redundancy for fault tolerance
Disk scrubbing for protection against latent disk errors
Resiliency to corruptions with “salvage” for maximum volume availability in all cases
Shared storage pools across machines for additional failure tolerance and load balancing
