Microsoft officially announced Officer 365 for education and it is now available for K-12 and college students and faculty members for free.Office 365 for education offers Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — and combines it with Microsoft Lync, SharePoint.

Bing adds 165 terabytes of new images to Bing Maps

Microsoft has announced in a blog post that it has added a165 terabytes of new satellite and Global Ortho images to the Bing Maps database.It covers imagery over North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Europe and Asia. The total area covered in this data release is nearly 38 million square kilometers.

Facebook forces @facebook.com e-mail addresses to all users

Facebook now changed the displayed default email address of all users to its own @facebook.com email addresses without any warning.

Advantage:
may reduce the email spam.

Disadvantage:
mails do not land in the inbox of your connected email account.

Fix:

visit your Facebook’s profile page.
click on the update info button.
locate Contact Info module and click on the edit button.
click the button and select hidden from timeline.
to show original email address select the shown on timeline option.
click on the save button at the bottom of the menu to save the changes.

Notepad++ 6.1.4 released

Notepad++ 6.1.4 is now available for download. What’s new in this version?

Fix a crash issue of Windows 8’s Computer Manager due to Notepad++’s Shell Extension (Explorer’s context menu).

Work around for a right click issue (crashing on right click) in Windows Explorer in all versions of Win 7 and Vista. Issue was caused by a conflict among Shell Extension (Explorer’s context menu) of Symantec Antivirus, Net iD component and Notepad++.

Fix a regression in clickable link feature.

Add “reload from disk” command entry in tab context menu.

Alan Turing’s 100th birthday Google doodle

Google is celebrating Alan Turing’s 100th birthday with a an interactive HTML5 codebreaking game google doodle on its homepage that simulates the Turing Machine.

Alan Mathison Turing, OBE, FRS (23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954), was an English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist. He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of “algorithm” and “computation” with the Turing machine, which played a significant role in the creation of the modern computer.Turing is widely considered to be the father of computer science and artificial intelligence.
