Twitter acquires BackType

Twitter has acquired the social analytics company backtype.From backtype blog “Joining Twitter gives us the opportunity to bring insight to tens of millions of publishers around the world that are using Twitter to communicate and connect with their audience. We’re also excited to bring our technology (especially Storm) to Twitter where it can have a big impact across the company.”
The company also says that BackTweets will now be offered for free, but we will not be accepting new signups. The API will be discontinued.

GoDaddy Sold

Godaddy has been sold to private equity firms KKR & Co., Silver Lake Partners and Technology Crossover Ventures for a (companies declined to provide a purchase price) $2.25 billion(Sources). From 2009 to 2010 GoDaddy’s sales grew by 25% to $947 million, and the company projects its figure for 2011 to be $1.1 billion.

MySpace has been sold to Specific Media for a $35 million.Specific Media is a digital media company driving viewership for content owners, engagement for brands and relevance for consumers and founded in 1999 by brothers Tim, Chris and Russell Vanderhook .In 2005, News Corporation bought MySpace for $580 million from its original owner.
