KOReader Document Viewer for E-Ink Devices

KOReader is a free and open source document viewer for E Ink devices for Linux, Android, Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook. Currently KOReader supports EPUB, PDF, DjVu, XPS, CBT, CBZ, FB2, PDB, TXT, HTML, RTF, CHM, DOC, MOBI and ZIP file formats. It is written in Lua and released under GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. It comes with multi-lingual user interface, page margins, line spacing, choose external fonts and styles and extend its features via plugins.

Install KOReader on Ubuntu Linux

KOReader is available as a portable .AppImage, native deb and flatpak file format. Download the latest version of KOReader in .AppImage file format from the above download link and save it on your Downloads folder.

Open the terminal app (ctrl+alt+alt) and run below commands one by one. Here “koreader-appimage-x86_64-linux-gnu-v2023.01.AppImage” is the downloaded file name. You can change below command based on your file name.

cd Downloads
sudo chmod +x ~ koreader-appimage-x86_64-linux-gnu-v2023.01.AppImage
./koreader-appimage-x86_64-linux-gnu-v2023.01.AppImage

KOReader Document Viewer app

Install KOReader via DEB:

Download KOReader in deb package file and save it on your Downloads folder. In the terminal app run below KOReader apt install command. Here “koreader-2023.01-amd64.deb” is the downloaded file name. You can change below command based on your file name.

sudo apt install ./Downloads/koreader-2023.01-amd64.deb

Install KOReader via Flatpak:

First install flatpak and flathub on your system and restart it after the installation.

In the terminal app run below KOReader flatpak install command.

flatpak install flathub rocks.koreader.KOReader

And start KOReader using below command.

flatpak run rocks.koreader.KOReader

And uninstall KOReader using below command.

sudo flatpak uninstall rocks.koreader.KOReader
