2 Best ways to Find and Remove Duplicate Files on Ubuntu

1.dupeGuru

 

dupeGuru is a free software for Linux and mac to find duplicate files on your computer. This tool provides two option like, scan either filenames or contents. It uses fuzzy matching algorithm to find duplicate filenames. It has a special Music mode and Picture mode. using this you can also move or copy files elsewhere.

Install dupeGuru on Ubuntu:

First add its PPA by opening your terminal app by searching terminal in ubuntu dash. Then execute the command in your terminal app.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hsoft/ppa

Then type your ubuntu password. And hit enter key confirm the installation.
Then type the below command and hit enter.

sudo apt-get update

Then run the below command in terminal to install dupeGuru on Ubuntu.

sudo apt-get install dupeguru-se

Type Y and hit enter to confirm the installation of dupeguru duplicate file finder. You can also install it via the .deb file from here

After the successful installation of dupeGuru restart your pc. Just type dupeGuru in the ubuntu dash search field. Then click dupeGuru to open it.

2.FSlint

FSlint is also a free tool for linux system to find and remove unwanted or duplicate files from your computer.It has both GUI and command line modes.

Install FSlint on Ubuntu

To install it on Ubuntu, open your terminal app and type the below command and hit enter key.

sudo apt-get update

Then type your ubuntu password. And hit enter key.

Then run the below command in terminal to install FSlint.

sudo apt-get install fslint

Type Y and hit enter to confirm the installation of FSlint duplicate file finder on ubuntu.

After the successful installation of FSlint restart your pc. Just type FSlint in the ubuntu dash search field. Then click FSlint to open it.
