Google is celebrating Léon Foucault’s 194th birthday with a new interactive digital version of the Foucault pendulum doodle on its homepage.

Jean Bernard Léon Foucault (18 September 1819 – 11 February 1868) was a French physicist best known for his demonstration of the Foucault pendulum, a device demonstrating the effect of the Earth’s rotation. He also made an early measurement of the speed of light, discovered eddy currents, and although he did not invent it, is credited with naming the gyroscope.

Thunderbird 24 released

Thunderbird 24 is now available for download. Thunderbird is a free, open source, cross-platform e-mail and developed by the Mozilla Foundation. What’s new in this version of thunderbird?

Message threads can now be ignored or watched.
Emails can now be sent to IDN based email addresses.
Zoom functionality is now available in the compose window.
In the Compose window, ctrl/cmd + and ctrl/cmd – now change the zoom setting rather than the font size.
In Twitter, replying to a tweet now replies to all users, just like on the Twitter website.

John Wisden’s 187th birthday google doodle

Google is celebrating John Wisden’s 187th birthday with a new a google doodle on its homepage.

John Wisden (5 September 1826 – 5 April 1884) was an English cricketer who played 187 first-class cricket matches for three English county cricket teams, Kent, Middlesex and Sussex. He is now best known for launching the eponymous Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack in 1864, the year after he retired from first-class cricket.
