CoreChess is a free and open source chess game for Linux and Windows. It comes with three chess engines Universal Chess Interface, Chess Engine Communication Protocol and Chessmaster. It also supports Polyglot (BIN), Arena opening book (ABK) and Chessmaster (OBK) opening book formats. It comes with dark and light themes and option to set the chessboard color themes, pieces, font, language and player name. It is released under GNU General Public License v3.0.
Install CoreChess on Ubuntu Linux
CoreChess is available as a flatpak package from flathub. You need flatpak in your system first to install CoreChess. follow below link for flatpak and flathub installation instructions.
After installation restart your system. After that open the terminal application using the applications menu or via the ctrl+alt+t keys and run below CoreChess flatpak installation command.
flatpak install flathub com.github.sakya.corechess
Now you can open CoreChess using this command.
flatpak run com.github.sakya.corechess
You can also uninstall CoreChess app using below command.
sudo flatpak uninstall com.github.sakya.corechess
