Opera Software has acquired Handster. Handster is an Application Store solution company offering a white label platform and a branded Application Store (Handster.com).  The platform supports Windows Mobile, Google Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Java applications. Smart phone users can access the store via a website, mobile web and an on-device client.

Anant Pai’s 82nd birthday google doodle

Today Google celebrates 82nd Birthday of Anant Pai with a new Google Doodle on it’s home page. Anant Pai (September 1929 – 24 February 2011) was an Indian educationalist and creator of Indian comics, in particular the Amar Chitra Katha series.He also known as Uncle pai.Amar Chitra Katha, sells about three million comic books a year, in English and more than 20 Indian languages, and has sold about 100 million copies since it inception in 1967 by Anant Pai.

Albert Szent-Gyorgyi’s 118th birthday google doodle

Today Google celebrates 118th birthday of Albert Szent-Gyorgyi with a pair of oranges and some fruits on it’s home page. Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi de Nagyrápolt (September 16, 1893 – October 22, 1986) was a Hungarian physiologist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937. He is credited with discovering vitamin C and the components and reactions of the citric acid cycle.

5 New languages – twitter

Twitter now available in five new languages. The new languages are Hindi, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Malay, Tagalog. Twitter now supports total of 17 languages. And also said “We will continue to add more languages to the Translation Center for crowdsourced translation. Coming soon to the Translation Center: Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish and Hungarian”

Google has released a new search service called Google Flight Search. This new service will help you find and book flights. Included airlines are  Delta, JetBlue, Continental and American and the cities New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and Minneapolis. Just typed from city and to city in the Google search window to get flight details.

Linux.com and LinuxFoundation.org are down now and the reason for this downtime from their homepage,

“Linux Foundation infrastructure including LinuxFoundation.org, Linux.com, and their subdomains are down for maintenance due to a security breach that was discovered on September 8, 2011. The Linux Foundation made this decision in the interest of extreme caution and security best practices. We believe this breach was connected to the intrusion on kernel.org.

We are in the process of restoring services in a secure manner as quickly as possible. As with any intrusion and as a matter of caution, you should consider the passwords and SSH keys that you have used on these sites compromised. If you have reused these passwords on other sites, please change them immediately. We are currently auditing all systems and will update this statement when we have more information.”
