Wordbook Dictionary Application

Wordbook is a free, open source and powerful English-English dictionary application developed for Linux. It makes use of the Open English WordNet database to provide reliable definitions and eSpeak for accurate pronunciation, including both audio and phoneme.

One of the key features of Wordbook is its ability to function fully offline once the initial data download has been completed. This ensures that users can access the dictionary without an internet connection. Another feature is the Random Word function, which allows users to discover new words and expand their vocabulary. The Live Search feature provides instant results and makes it easy for users to find the word they’re looking for. Additionally, the Double-click search function provides a quick and efficient way to look up words.

Wordbook also includes a Custom Definitions feature that supports Pango Markup or an HTML subset for formatting. This allows users to customize the appearance of the text according to their preferences. It supports Wordbook supports Dark Mode and provides the option to launch the app in Dark Mode, making it easy on the eyes for users who prefer a darker theme.

How to Install Wordbook on Ubuntu Linux

To install Wordbook on your system, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps. First, you’ll need to install Flatpak and Flathub.

Once you’ve installed Flatpak and Flathub, you’ll need to restart your system to ensure that everything is properly configured. After that, you can proceed to install Wordbook.

To install Wordbook, simply open a terminal window (ctrl+alt+t) and enter the following command.

flatpak install flathub com.github.fushinari.Wordbook

After the installation open it using below command.

flatpak run com.github.fushinari.Wordbook

And uninstall Wordbook using this command.

sudo flatpak uninstall com.github.fushinari.Wordbook
