Delta Chat is a free and open source email based chat application for Linux, Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. It comes with interactive chat via webxdc apps and the recipient no need to download and install Delta Chat to receive message. The Delta Chat act as a email client with chat features. Some other features are Push-IMAP, address book, images, videos and other attachments support, pin chat, mute chat, group chat and more.
Install Delta Chat on Ubuntu Linux
Delta Chat is available via portable AppImage, native deb and flatpak package files from flathub. Download Delta Chat in .AppImage file format from the above download link and save it in your Downloads folder. Here “DeltaChat-1.32.0.AppImage” is the downloaded file name. You can change below commands based on your file name and Download path.
Open the terminal app (ctrl+alt+t) and run below commands one by one.
cd Downloads
sudo chmod +x ~ DeltaChat-1.32.0.AppImage
./DeltaChat-1.32.0.AppImage
Install Delta Chat via DEB:
Download Delta Chat in native .deb package file format from the above Delta Chat download link and save the downloaded file in your Downloads directory. Now in the terminal application run below Delta Chat install command. It will install the latest version of Delta Chat on your system.
sudo apt install ./Downloads/deltachat-desktop_1.32.0_amd64.deb
Here “deltachat-desktop_1.32.0_amd64.deb” is the downloaded file name. Change it based on your file name.
Install Delta Chat via Flatpak:
First install flatpak and flathub on your system and restart it. After that in the terminal command line app run below Delta Chat flatpak install command.
flatpak install flathub chat.delta.desktop
Start Delta Chat using this command.
flatpak run chat.delta.desktop
You can also uninstall Delta Chat using
sudo flatpak uninstall chat.delta.desktop
