Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus is now available for download. Xenial Xerus is Long-Term Support (LTS) release. It is supported for 5 years with critical security, bug and app updates from Canonical. xenial means friendly relations between hosts and guests and Xerus means the African ground squirrels.

Ubuntu 16.04 gets a codename Xenial Xerus, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth revealed on his personal
blog post.

Xenial Xerus is Long-Term Support (LTS) release. xenial means friendly relations between hosts
and guests and Xerus means the African ground squirrels.

Xenial Xerus is scheduled for release in April 2016.
